A couple of years ago when some of my paintings were being represented by an art gallery in Pawhuska, Ok the owner asked if I would do some paintings of Prairie Chickens. He needed more wildlife depicted among the Native American, Ranch Life and Landscape paintings he preferred. This is the last among those I did for him.
I've always wondered if one of our state schools' football teams got it's name of Boomer Sooners from these birds. In the spring the males' display includes a sound they make called "booming" made somehow involving the inflated throat sacks only visible at this time.
